WHY I AM GOING TO FINCON

I still have to make my pack list (YES, don't hate).
Before that, I also need to go over the 4 day AGENDA and block out which "sessions" I want to attend. There's one titled: "ON FIRE: Everything You Need to Know About Financial Independence," the other: "So You Think You Can't Video?" I don't know which one will offer the better pastry. Decisions will have to be made.
FINCON is (if I may), a social gathering of financial nerds/geeks. Some have made an entire career writing about prudent financial advice: championing the efforts of budgeting, frugal living, and saving more than "x" percent. Others are on the sales side (DEAL WITH IT, no shame in that) touting why their practice/method/process are different and creates value. Overall, it's a melting pot of like-minded people who are fighting the good fight: informing the masses one blog, podcast, video post at a time...and I'm a fan.
Chances are I've come across your work. I follow you on Twitter, subscribe to your blog, and while I may skip the marketing plug-ins on your podcast - ultimately, I listen!
I've read your post about how you built over a quarter-million in passive income, all before the age of 40 - you bastard. =)
I read your story from busboy to finance guru. The Hustler.
I also enjoyed learning about how you and your spouse quit corporate America and FOLLOWED your financial plan enabling you to travel the world on your own terms, with your newborn baby- THAT IS AMAZING, CONGRATS!
I can go on. There's too many great stories about how "normal people" are actually doing it right. I'd rather read about this many times over than the CRAP on main stream media- yes, please tell me for the thousant' time what the Fed will do.
I remember reading Ben Carlson's "10 Things I Believe About Investing" (A Wealth of Common Sense), this past summer:
"I believe that individuals spend far too much time studying billionaire fund managers and not enough time studying normal people who have successfully retired."
It's the personal stories, YOUR stories and lessons that drove my curiosity. Whether I have a chance to meet some of you face to face, or in passing, hey keep doing what you are doing! Camaraderie is hard to find, but I think I'll find it at FINCON.
a fan,
